Touring the Acropolis

September 2, 2005

First things first-Happy Birthday Chad!!!

After our cramped sleeping quarters the night before we decided to move to another pension for more space and a homier environment. We decided that The Marble House Pension fit the bill and we found our way via the metro to our new home for 3 nights. Once we got some breakfast in us we headed out to visit the Acropolis. As we rounded the street we got a fabulous view of the Parthenon which stops you dead in your tracks when you see if from a distance, it is truly magnificent. Throughout our day trip we visited the Acropolis site and museum, the Roman Agora, the Ancient Agora and the Temple of Dionysos. We were impressed with the architecture and the great views of Athens that can be seen throughout the park. If you plan to visit the site please remember to watch your step, the marble stairs are very slippery and we saw many tourists take a hard fall during their visit. Once we decided to call it a day at the park we walked through the Plaka area of Athens and grabbed a much needed cold water and ice cream cone. Later that night I persuaded Craig and Dena to try a local vegetarian restaurant, Eden Restaurant, for some tasty veggie versions of the local food. I had a vegetarian moussaka, a Greek salad for Dena and Craig tried a delicious mushroom stew. With our bellies full we walked through the Plaka again as well as the Acropolis which was lit up in all its glory.
