Olympic Stadium and Montjuic Park

December 30, 2005

We began our tour today in the Barri Gotic and La Ribera districts. Along the way we came upon the Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar so we popped our heads in. We were pleasantly surprised to find an orchestra practicing so we took a seat and enjoyed the music while taking in the Catalan Gothic architecture. Once the orchestra finished we strolled around nearby and did some window shopping at the great stores in the area. We eventually made our way towards the sea and headed in the opposite directions towards Montjuic Park. The park is located on a hill sitting above the city. The walk was pretty easy but there is a cable car option from the waterfront as well. Once at the top we enjoyed the panoramic views offered and tried to find the landmarks of the city. We continued through the park to the Olympic Stadium which was, well...a stadium. It probably looked a lot more grand during the Olympics but time has taken its toll I guess. We continued our walk through the park until we arrived at the Palau Nacional where the Museum of Catalunya Art is held. We didn't venture in but the building and its surroundings are a nice sight in themselves. Continuing west we ran into the Placa d'Espanya where they are renovating the historic Barcelona Stadium and headed back to our place.
