Football madness

February 5, 2006

It's football madness today. Not only is it Super Bowl Sunday back home but there is also a big football, aka soccer, game in Segovia. We don't know anything about the teams but the team in red had a huge fan base which provided some cheap entertainment for us. As the morning light snow gave way to a sunny afternoon we busied ourselves by touring the late 18th century Alcazar which had to be rebuilt after a fire ravaged the building in the 13th century. The building was once a royal residence turned prison. These days the public is able to tour the old castle and its room which are large and house beautiful tile work and wall decorations. Unfortunately the sun hadn't warmed things up too much so we went to lunch only to find the restaurant just as cold. Our server offered both of us wool blankets for our dining experience which was a first. We also grabbed a cup of melted chocolate, aka hot cocoa, later on as the day grew to an end.
