Sopron to Vienna

Music in Vienna

September 29, 2005

Today we took the 1.5 hour bus ride from Sopron, Hungary to Vienna, Austria. It still continued to rain today, but we decided a museum would be a good thing to do while it rained. We chose the Haus der musik museum. This was nice change of pace from the other museums we've been to in Europe. The museum shows you the history of music with the emphasis in the music in Vienna including Mozart and Beethoven. This history was interesting but the fun part was the interactive tools they had for you to experience the technology behind sound and using the different computer based instruments to create your own music. After the Musik museum we weren't ready to walk around in the rain so we checked out the Backhausen-Wiener Werkstatte Museum. This museum focused on the textile manufacturer Backhausen and the original sketches they produced. It was free and Tina enjoyed it a bit more than I did as she was inspired to try her hand at decorating a 2nd house once we get back home and settled in. The museum is quite small so we weren't there very long and it was still drizzling outside. We had tossed around the idea of splurging for my birthday so we checked out some nearby pensions to see if there was any availability and the costs. This gave us a good excuse to see some other parts of the city as well. Later that night we made a steaming pot of soup and chatted with another Canuck and a girl from Michigan. We are running into more and more Americans as we get closer to home.
