Buon Natale!

December 25, 2005

Merry Christmas!! This was our first Christmas abroad and it was definitely different. The weather was sunny and in the low 60's, so no white Christmas this year. We also found the atmosphere in town much more alive then what we were used to. There were many museums open until 1pm so we walked up to the San Martino museum and adjacent castle to view some more presepi and stunning views of the bay. As we left the museums the city was full of families making their way out of church for their Christmas celebrations. It made us a bit homesick but at least we had each other. Later on we were able to call home which made our moods brighten a bit. We did splurge a bit for our Christmas dinner with a panettone. All around Italy we saw these cakes which can include candied fruits, chocolate or plain with powdered sugar. It was really tasty and we're glad we could experience a bit of the traditional Italian Christmas meal.
